The concept of consciousness has been studied across the world for centuries. You don’t have to be an Avatar with a blue arrow tattooed on your head to obtain its definition. Consciousness is the state of total awareness in the present moment. We don’t actually have to do anything to obtain consciousness because it’s always with us. Let me explain. It’s as simple as realizing and becoming aware. Being aware of our current breath, current blink, or the sensations we are feeling, smelling, or hearing in the present moment. To be in total consciousness we shouldn’t worry about the future like Raven Baxter or dwell on the past like Jessie from Toy Story. Instead, be aware of every passing present moment no matter if it’s eating a cup of microwave ramen or staying awake pulling an all nighter for your upcoming exam. It’s inevitable that we’ll have to plan for the future. That could be scheduling our spring break trip to Daytona Beach, but to remain in the state of consciousness, we shouldn’t dwell on the unnecessary thoughts of the future. Maybe that’s fantasizing about those endless surfs you’ll take on the waves. The same goes for dwelling in the past. If someone brings up a nice memory of your high school graduation party, there’s no use in dwelling on the regrets you made during high school. Right now is the only time that is promised and being aware of this present moment means you’re in total consciousness. You don’t have to be a member of Cobra Kai to wrap your head around this concept. Instead, remember you’re not a human doing you’re a human being. And that being is being in total consciousness.
